Thank You For Sharing The Moon
by Robin MacBlane
Amy and Sandra are sitting with Don
Comparing their Halloween loot
And watching while parents pick up their friends
From the party that ended too soon
They are enjoying the beams of the moon
When they notice a shadow is cast
Over by the window sits one of their friends
All alone by the large panes of glass
“It’s Anthony”, Don says, while arranging his bag
Of goodies in his personal stash
“I’m going over to tell him ‘Hello’”,
Says Sandra with her own unique panache
“What for?”, asks Amy, as she gathers her bag
And rises as her parents enter the room
“Tony won’t hear you anyway
And besides, your Dad will be here soon”
“Some people are different”, Sandra replies
To Amy as she says “Goodbye”
“That isn’t a reason to ignore anyone
All are the same in my mind’s eye”
Sandra walks over to Anthony
And touches his shoulder with her hand
Anthony looks up and sees Sandra’s smile
He smiles back with a grin
He motions to Sandra to sit by his side
Together they go through their bags
They talk with their hands, for you see
Anthony’s language is not hard to understand
Some people seem different
Although they really are not
Everyone is the same
Anthony and Sandra have both been blessed
Not being deterred and therefore refrain
“I like the shadow that I saw before
Can you do another for me please?”
Anthony smiled and put together his hands
And created a bird in the trees
Sandra signed, “I’d like to try”
As her fingers came together in the moon beam
“Let’s see now. What shall I make?
I know! A long-tailed cat for Halloween”
Anthony laughed at Sandra’s moon art
He made some more shadows through the beam
Sandra laughed loudly and soon they both roared
As their shadows made up a team
“Let me try”, said Don with Dracula eyes
Coming over to join in the fun
“I can make something, I’m sure, if I try
Let’s see now, mmmm
How about volcano mud?”
Sandra and Anthony laughed really hard
As everyone joined them in the light of the moon
Soon all were making shadows of their own
When Anthony signed to them all
“Thank You for sharing the moon with me
This is the best Halloween of them all”
Some people seem different
Although they really are not
Everyone is the same
Each of us are blessed with our own special gift
Never being deterred and never refrain
The End
