This is based on a true story of a man and his son who spent the night treading water off the coast of Florida in the Atlantic Ocean.
The download of this song is free. We are encouraging all those who enjoy the song to consider making a voluntary contribution to a school for autistic children. One such school, in Ocala, Florida, is New Horizon Academy. A link to the school's website is on our "Links" page.
Here are the words:
When Walter saw Christopher
Drifting away,
Walter swam courageously
Through the ocean waves.
And on the beach
Angela prayed---
The Coast Guard was called
And they came right away---
When Walter reached Christopher
They played---
And, from the shore,
The father and his son appeared to fade.
The rescue team
Searched beyond the setting sun.
For the husband and the brother,
The father and the son---
In the dark of the night,
Pulled into the ocean
By the merciless tide,
Walter cried to Christopher,
"To infinity!"
"Can you hear me?"
"Can you hear me---- Christopher?"
Walter knew Christopher was fearless,
Walter knew Christopher could swim,
And through the night
The family prayed---
For a miracle,
To be together again---
The sun began to usher in the day,
A fisherman spied something in the waves,
The glimmering of Walter's golden charm,
But Walter was afraid,
Christopher was gone---
In the dark of the night,
Pulled into the ocean
By the merciless tide,
Walter cried to Christopher,
"To infinity!"
"Can you hear me?"
"Can you hear me---- Christopher?"
The Coast Guard came to Walter with the news,
"Christopher's been found,
And we are bringing him to you."---
Walter knew Christopher was saved!
They survived through the night,
They survived through the waves!
On the deck of the ship,
Both were reunited
In a bear-hugging grip!
Then Walter cried to Christopher,
"To infinity! To infinity!"
"Our love will last that long!"
