Robin And The Giant: Our CDs

This CD features 14 songs with the central theme being the city of Ocala, Florida, which is home to both Robin MacBlane and Larry Whitler, better known as Robin And The Giant.

Leftover Fun is filled with new songs written specifically for this collection. On this album we ran the gamut from silly to serious with songs like "A Hamster Poops" and "To Infinity (The Ballad Of Walter And Christopher).

We are so thrilled with this album! 18 songs that are all special to both of us for many reasons. The “icing on the cake” is Robin’s beautiful painting that adorns this project inside and out. Following are the liner notes for the album.

Partners In Rhyme is our second album recorded entirely on a computer. For those interested, we used a program from Sony called Acid Pro 6. The songs were, with some exceptions, all written in the early 1990s when we were still doing a lot of live shows at schools around Florida.

“Not Too Long Ago” is a collection of original songs that have been written and performed by Robin And The Giant (aka Robin MacBlane and Larry Whitler) over the years for both children and adults. Each version of each of these songs was recorded in early 2007. We hope that each of these songs evokes a memory of the adult’s youth or a memory of time shared with your children.

This CD is a recording of a radio special we produced for Digital Cable Radio. The collection has some of the rare 4 track cassette versions of songs that appear more produced in later albums. The album begins and ends with the "Robin And The Giant Theme" song which was used at the opening and closing of all the radio programs during the era when Robin And The Giant produced a weekly radio program of stories and songs every Sunday.

"Time To Travel" was a special 90 minute radio program we produced for Digital Cable Radio. This two CD set contains the entire program. On this album Robin And The Giant are on a road trip and discover many new things about the world around them as well as about each other. Filled with songs and stories from the original radio broadcast and, as always, completely written by Robin MacBlane and Larry Whitler.

Around 1995, or so, we recorded a Halloween special for radio and wrote a handful of songs specifically for that project. The radio special was one hour long and was one of our favorites. It’s hard to say why we enjoyed the Halloween special so much but we both suspect it had a lot to do with the sound effects!

So when we decided, twelve years later, to record our first ever Halloween CD we were looking forward to having fun, once again, with sound effects. And on this CD we have done exactly that!

Of the songs we wrote for the special in the 1990s we have only kept two of the originals. All the rest of the songs on this CD are brand new and written especially for this project in 2007.

We wanted to create a Halloween CD for children that stayed away from the macabre themes so commonly associated with this often controversial holiday. Instead, we have focused on the fun elements of Halloween and, most importantly, the theme of spending family time together.

This Christmas CD contains songs that have become such a fond memory on their own. It gives new meaning to the title of the collection "Fond Memories Of Christmas."

“Signed, Infinity” was officially completed in August of 2008. This is my first CD that includes a cover song (“The Lord’s Prayer”). Most of the others are songs I’ve written over the course of many years and there are two new songs on the CD (“Signed, Infinity” and “One Chapter More”).

Although the songs are old, the recordings are all new. I recorded all of these songs at my home in Ocala, Florida during the spring and summer of 2008. I used a software program called Acid Pro and, of course, my trusty 12 string acoustic guitar.

This is Larry Whitler's "back to basics" album. The collection relies on the strengths of the songs with little or no added production elements on most of the songs.

This album is a mixture of re-recorded songs that Larry Whitler dug out of his song box as well as new songs written for this album (or at least during the recording of the album).

The songs on this CD are all recorded at home on the Acid Pro 6 with the exception of "Except You" and "If There's Anything Good" which were both recorded at Pro-Media Recording Studios in Gainesville, Florida. Also, with the exception of the two studio songs, all of these recordings were created in 2006 and 2007 even though most of the songs are very old.
